Katherine McKittrick brings in this book many theories and methodologies of black and anticolonial studies together. Referencing Sylvia Wynter, Frantz Fanon and the contemporary fellow Canadian Dionne Brand amongst many others, Dear Science is as much a research project as a celebration of black thought. The author dives into subjects such as algorithmic bias and the dismissal of areas of black study as not academically rigourous. While it’s not the type of book to read cover to cover in one sitting, I would recommend it to anyone interested in the academic approach to black life and it is definitely a great work of reference for students and researchers.
