A Little Devil in America | Hanif Abdurraqib

Reading this book really gave me joy. Hanif Abdurraqib writes about perfomances by Black artists and musicians both past and present. He shows the significance of the stage where community and cultury come together while also relating his personal stories and memories. He is a poet as well as an essayist and A Little Devil shows the best of both with the words flowing rhytmically on the pages. The title comes from what Josephine Baker said to the crowd during the March on Washington: 'I was a devil in other countries, and I was a little devil in America, too.' A must read for every music lover!
